Execution

Archives are handled by zip2john / rar2john extractors, then run through John the Ripper against the rockyou or 10,000 common passwords wordlist depending on archive format. RAR5 archives target the 10k list; ZIP uses rockyou.

Archive formats

We support the two most common password-protected archive formats. Both are handled by the John the Ripper tool family, which produces a hash that our wordlist-based cracker consumes.

ZIP archives

Classic ZipCrypto (legacy) and AES-encrypted ZIP 2.0 archives. Extracted via zip2john.

RAR archives

RAR3 and RAR5 formats. RAR5's PBKDF2-based KDF is slower, so stronger passwords rarely appear in small wordlists.
